Oh yeah, she can be my Valentine.

Oh yeah, she can my valentine
.

Hello readers and happy Hallmark, er, uh, I mean Valentine's Day!

Lots of news going on in Cougar land but it's all been covered pretty well here and elsewhere, so I'm gonna take a break from pulling my hair out over blown second half leads and pay homage to those we love, or at least... to those Cougs we love.

Read on for the much anticipated, Longball's Crimson Valentines:

  • First up, the one and only Bob Robertson. With words alone, this living legend has been painting vivid images of Cougar sports for decades. A testament to his greatness are the countless Coug fans who mistakenly believe they witnesses in person, or watched on TV a great Cougar moment they really only listened to on the radio. Cougar Country is Mr. Robertson's neighborhood. Bob Rob, will you be my Valentine?

  • Next up, my favorite Cougar athlete of all time, Ike Fontaine. One of the all time great characters to don the crimson and gray, Ike was a herky jerky goofball of a guy who had mad crazy skills on the basketball court. I'll never forget in his last home game he sank what should have been the game winning free throws to beat UCLA with just 3 seconds remaining. UCLA then in-bounded the ball and either Edney or Dollar made it the length of the court for a game winning lay-in, a feat reminiscent of their NCAA championship game triumph. A little piece of me died that day. Ike went on to be the CBA player of the year for about 34 years in a row. Ike Fontaine, please be my valentine!

  • Finally, the incomparable John Olerud. This guy was so great that not only did he lead my Cougs to the post season, but also my Mariners to the greatest regular season ever... all with a level of class and quiet humility that could only be matched by, well, Drew Bledsoe. Mr. Olerud, I am sure you are humbled and honored to be my valentine.

So now dear readers, put down that box of chocolates you got for your significant other today, open up the comments below and share with us who YOU want to be your Crimson valentine. Or, as is said on this day more than any other... I've shown you mine, now show me yours!

Since Longball took Ike, I will take Jenni Ruff. My backup would be Sarah Silvernail.
