CHOKE!

Yeah, yeah, yeah... lets all say it together. Ready?

"We're young."

Sick of it yet? Yeah, me too. That excuse is getting pretty tired and I think it's time for a new revelation. We are underachieving. In two matchups against Stanford the Cougs built 20 and 18 point leads because they are actually that much better than Stanford. In both contests those leads evaporated because this team has failed to improve on its most glaring weakness... maintaining defensive intensity for a full 40 minutes. We first learned this lesson way, way, way back against Eastern Washington and continued to learn it through contests with Gonzaga, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona, Stanford, Washington, and Stanford again. If I didn't live 6 miles away from the Idaho Vandals I would say that we are the biggest chokers in all of basketball. Quite frankly, no lead, against any opponent is safe for us, because for some reason our team continues to be too comfortable once they build a lead. Amazing, considering they've never held onto one against an opponent with a pulse.

So I invite you, dear readers, to vent. Let it all out. The comments are now open...

Very sloppy basketball

When you play like that it really doesn't matter who wins. Good teams have bad days, but they never play like this.
Ridiculous

I get the defense has lapses, but where is this offense that is supposed to be up and down? Really the last half of the game was like watching bennett ball without the defense.
WTF?!

This game was in the bag, even with 7 minutes to play and then they gift wrapped it for the Trees. I can deal with Stanford making 16 points in the final 7 minutes, but what the hell happened to the offense??? They went scoreless for quite some time!
Attitude

Honestly I think one of the biggest problems is the teams attitude. However, I'm not just talking about basketball, I'm talking about all Coug Athletics. You look at UCLA, USC, Oklahoma, and even Boise Stat's Football team and besides talent what do their teams have in common. They all believe that they are going to win. Some people call it arrogance but when you watch them play, especially in close games, the players have a swagger that they are going to win. WSU obviously doesn't have that. Heck, even during the three 10 win seasons the football team always played scared against the Huskies. That's why I'm proposing that we get ride of the term "coug it"...Its a defeatest attitude that to be honest isn't that funny anymore. I'm sorry but the first step in being a winner is believing you're a winner and right now I feel the team does not believe.

Sorry for the high school football coach pep talk but it's kind of the the truth!!
