WSU QB Recruit Connor Halliday Highlight Video

Good morning Cougs.  A quick post to start your week.  Today we take a look at video of none other than Ferris QB Connor Halliday, the lone QB verbally committed to WSU for this upcoming signing class.

Halliday, as you'll see, has all the measurables.  Good size at 6-5, a strong, accurate arm, excellent feet, and a really, really quick release.  So quick, in fact, that Jason Gesser, doing the color commentary on FSN for the state 4A championship game, said Skyline's head coach told him that they wouldn't even try to blitz Halliday.  He simply gets rid of the ball too fast for a blitz to be effective.  However, he was under some pressure for most of the night, but that was based on Skyline's excellent surge by their defensive line.

And best of all, Halliday plays in your typical shotgun, spread-em-out offense with multiple WR sets, where he makes quick reads and gets it out fast.  A lot of short throws into the flat, then taking shots down the field when the defense starts to cheat up.

Check out the video clip, after the read more......

A few things that caught my eye?

1)  The arm strength.  Those are some fastballs coming out of there, and a few with some real sizzle.  There is even one incompletion in there where he steps up to avoid the rush and slings it nearly 70 yards.  But you can see the velocity on some of those things.
2) The poise.  Several times he stood in there and took some shots, not afraid to step up and keep his eyes down the field.  He looks awfully comfortable in the pocket.  And a lot of times, he doesn't appear to just lock on to option #1.  You can see him making the reads, going through his progressions, finding the open guy.  He had three WR's on his team this year with at least 80 catches, so you know he likes to spread the wealth.
3) The accuracy
.  Gesser mentioned this a few times, but he did a great job of putting it on the money on a couple of those deep slants, as well as the throw he makes rolling to his right and throwing a 30-yard strike right at the sideline on 4th and long.  And not just accuracy, but the touch as well.  We saw the sizzle on the fastball, but you can also see some decent touch in there, including the fade on the first TD lob in the corner as it goes "down the chimney".  He certainly doesn't look like a one-trick, velocity-only type QB, does he?

Best of all, while they couldn't hang with Skyline, Halliday had a fantastic playoff run.  Ferris barely made the playoffs as it was, but Halliday threw for over 1,000 yards and had double-digit TD passes in the playoffs ALONE!  Over 4,000 yards and 41 TD's on the season, but almost a third of that came in the playoffs??  Really, really impressive.

We'll see how it all works out.  He sounds pretty firm in that WSU commitment, but we've already heard that ASU has been sniffing around a couple of other WSU commits.  Schools are out there trying to poach as the fill their classes out, so you can bet Halliday is going to hear from more schools down the stretch.  But it will be nice to see him in crimson-n-gray next year (as long as that redshirt stays on, of course!).

All for now.  As always, GO COUGS!

Halliday?

Kaddy, what are the chances that Halliday is in crimson and gray?

If you are a member at Cougfan check out Jim Moore's interview with him. He is stoked at being a Coug and can't wait to stick it to the Defeateds. He mentioned specifically feeling dissed as they waited on Heaps to make a decison. He also said he wants to RS to add beef. Unless this staff scews up the one area they have excelled in, recruiting, he will sign on the dotted line.
What an arm!

Great work Hawkins. Arm strength and touch is hard to figure out. I watched all the Tuel highlights and while Tuel moves better I believe this guy might be on another level in throwing the ball. I see why Skyline didn't blitz much because he gets rid of it so damn fast. And You can hear the ball thud into some of their receivers' hands on a few of the plays. The rollout throw on fourth down was beautiful touch but how about the deep go route up the right sideline. The replay they show from the endzone you can see his head looking off the safety then he throws a 40-yard strike in stride. That might have been his third read on that play. Gotta wear shades the future is bright with this youngin.smilies/cool.gif

I do need to add that thank god Heaps is not going to wear purple. Holliday looks great but Heaps is another Drew brees right down to the height, number and accuracy. What a great QB and that was a great comparison btw.

I just remember Kaddy saying something along the lines that he knows the coach, or his dad, or his uncle or something... just wanted to see if he was wavering at all with his decision to be a Coug?

He's definitely the truth, and I can't wait to buy a new jersey next season with his number on it.
Excellent!

Love the arm and competitiveness of the kid QB. My step brother was at the game and said that Halliday is very intense, looked like a leader. The feet are good the way he moves away from pressure. He's an athlete, no question. Heaps is something else but you put Halliday with his tools in Sky's offense and he could be unreal. Imagine Kasen Williams running under those 70-yard bombs. Come on Wulff, bring him home!
Portland Coug must be a comedian

First off, Halliday is a good looking prospect and I hope you guys can hold on to him. But Kasen Williams in Pullman? Not. A. Chance.
Williams

I looked up Kasen Williams - he is being recruited by these schools:

Bama, ASU, BSU, BYU, Cal, Florida, LSU, ND, Oregon, Stanford, Tenn., UCLA, UW, WSU.

Chances of him coming to Pullman?

I meant if Halliday was QB for Skyline and what he could do with a widereceiver like Kasen Williams.
Williams to UW most likely

I've heard they are optimistic on getting Williams, if you believe that stuff. But both parents are Huskies, son of former UW WR Aaron Williams. Talk about an athlete though, wow, that kid has great hops, hands and body control! Silky smooth.
Stealing?

Cougcenter already ran this story, right down to the video.

Stealing? Uh, no
written by SeanHawk, December 07, 2009
I saw that story that they posted, and no, it's not stealing. Two blogs writing about the same subject matter? Shocking. Seriously, any two WSU blogs are bound to write similar things.

Besides, he links to our site in his post as of 11:30 this AM. Ours ran at midnight last night. I don't know how we could steal when he links to us?

I went to the cougcenter post, and after reading that the video was "courtesy of Sean Hawkins at WSU Football Blog", Doug G. I don't know what the hell you are talking about. Not that Sean needs me to defend him, but next time bring an actual argument/point/something to the table.

Halliday will be a Coug, no doubt, unless of course something happens to Sturdy, which some people want.

If that happened, he would still probably be a Coug, but I wouldn't be 100% on it.

His coach, Jim Sharkey, was one of my coaches in high school. Sharkey's dad was my head coach.

#82 looked good - Bates? They mentioned he was 6'4"...maybe another Karstetter?

Ryan Leaf Redux
written by Coug-A-Sutra, December 07, 2009
Certainly, he can't rival Ryan in the putz department.

But, as a QB, its like watching Leaf in a Ferris uniform.

Very, very, very impressive.
Bates
written by SeanHawk, December 07, 2009
I don't believe he's a D-1 prospect, Bates. Tall (6-4) but some say he's a "poor man's Karstetter". Hard to argue with 20+ TD receptions in one season, but he hasn't been recruited a ton.

take a look at this kid out of califotnia. I saw his video on the Hawaii fan blog. This kid doesn't look big, but he sure can play.
